The Dreamer (sometimes called "Reverie") is the supreme god of a dimension known as the Reverie Realms (also sometimes called "Reverie" or
"the Realms"). The Dreamer is a god of dreams (both the kind you have when you're asleep and the kind that is often only wishful thinking), of
imagination, and just of creativity in general.
Beings known as Vagaries walk the Realms. These beings all have different abilities, but all are extremely powerful in the Realms. Although some are "good" and others are "evil", all are servants of the Dreamer. Despite serving the same master, their contrary alignments cause them to fight each other quite regularly. However, this seems to be what the Dreamer wants anyway, since two Vagaries both trying to accomplish opposite goals often results in the Dreamer's true desires being met. On occasion, one Vagary will kill or outright destroy another in their conflicts, but the Dreamer always regenerates any of his lost servants.
Recently, the Dreamer provided passage for a number of Vagaries to leave the Realms and enter another world (some of their own volition, others in pursuit of those who had already left, and some at the direct request of the Dreamer). Unlike in the Realms, the Dreamer's power is not absolute in this world, and thus the Vagaries are considerably less powerful than they are used to being. They are all still formidable in many ways, however.
Universal/Common Vagary Abilities
As creatures of dreaming, Vagaries do not need to sleep.
Vagaries can enter a state of "sleepwalking". In this state, their steps are guided by the Dreamer. They may be led to where they want to go or to where the Dreamer wants them to go; that's up to him. They are completely capable of opening their eyes to see where they're headed at any time.
Vagaries are capable of communicating in dreams to any sleeping creature capable of dreaming, as long as the creature is nearby or fairly familiar with the Vagary who is trying to communicate.
In a similar manner, Vagaries can communicate in the same way with each other at any time, as long as the other Vagary in nearby or is very familiar with the Vagary who is trying to communicate.
Many Vagaries experience (either at will or randomly) series of images, sounds, and feelings known as "reveries". These often reveal important information about objects, places, or people near the Vagary or what the Dreamer wants the Vagary to do.
Many Vagaries are capable of detecting the location of other Vagaries, especially those whom they have interacted with regularly or recently. This is made easier if the Vagary attempting the detection has strong feelings regarding the target. The feelings can be either negative or positive.
