Hytric scratched the top of his head. He really didn't understand how it mattered whether she was a shapeshifter who had just happened to have been in wolf form, or a wolf who just happened to also be a shapeshifter. It seemed pretty important to Tarelyk, though. Sure, most wolves couldn't do that where Hytric came from, but that definitely didn't mean it was impossible. Nothing was.

Trying to change the subject from the specifics of what exactly the wolf-person-thing was, Hytric asked, "So, what exactly do you call this place? Other than just 'the desert', I mean. Assuming you have a proper name for it, which I guess you don't really need, since 'the desert' seems pretty accurate." He paused. "Also, is there civilization around here anywhere? A place where a lot of people live, I mean. A dwelling place. You know." He stopped. Sometimes, trying to explain things seemed to just confuse people further.
